Peter Marshall, of Matlpo Terrace, firmly believes that hand (brakes are treacherous instruments. And his car is proof of it. When the hand brake failed on Reter's car, the parked vehicle rolled down the road, over the bank, and then cartwheeled down a gorse-covered hillside and crashed into a rotary clothes line behind the home of Mr and Mrs I. R. Ward, of Murphy Street. As can be seen, the car was wrecked. The other picture traces its path down the hillside.

Stuart Scott, the 23-year-old son of Mrs C. Scott, 219 Collingwood Street, was awarded the first Vernon Brown Memorial Bursary in Auckland recently. The bursary is awarded to the best student doing his second year study for an architectural degree, at Auckland University. He is pointing out features of a contour model of the university site which he and other students in his group had prepared. Stuart is an old boy of Waimea Colliege (1958-62). (Auckland Star Pic)
