Our Cover

New Zealand's vast pine forests have in recent years become one of our biggest sources of overseas exchange. In this issue we feature the story of Nelson's contribution to this now flourishing export business –the story of logging the timber from Nelson forests that H. Baigent and Sons are shipping to Japan. In the next four years, this timber is going to earn for New Zealand $2,000,000 in valuable overseas exchange. This picture, of a timberjack working in one of the many plantations in Nelson, is typical of the scenes to be found in most timber camps around New Zealand.

Spring comes to Nelson each year in the form of thousands of tulips planted by the reserves department. This particularly brilliant display was exhibited in Anzac Park. No wonder Robin and Lynne Harman were keen to put it on film.
