New Tasman Tavern Opened

The new Tasman Tavern, which replaced the old Tasman Hotel, was opened last month. The tavern is the first of its kind in the province and features the most modern facilities for civilised drinking. There are two main bars, a public bar and the "Chartroom", for mixed drinking. In this spacious lounge, the management is insisting on patrons being clad in "respectable attire". Manager Mr Jock Irvine explained that this ban applied mainly to overalls and dirty work clothes which could dirty chairs and ruin expensive frocks and suits. A wise decision, Jock.
