A Reminder of Yesteryear

Stretching from Nelson city through the countryside towards Glenhope is a fenced-off strip of land that once carried the railway to Glenhope. When the line was closed in 1955 the rails were torn up and until now the land on which they ran has formed a barrier difficult to penetrate. Recently, however, the City Council approached the department to seek permission to extend Andrew Street through the old line and so link up the two sections of the street. It appears as if the council has been successful for council workmen have been working on the railway section recently

A common scene 12 years ago as the train and its wagons chugged their way across the countryside (this pic was taken from the eastern side of Andrew street).

Last month we took this pic of council workmen working on the crossing.

A lot has happened in 12 years, hasn't it?
