Chess Championships

Twenty-six players from five chess clubs competed in the Nelson district championships last month. The defending champion, T. van Dijk (Nelson club) retained his title with wins in all five rounds. The outstanding success was that of Stuart Wells, Waimea College, who won the B grade title. Stuart, at 12, was the youngest competitor.
