Charity Concert Was Bright Entertainment

Sponsorship of Miss Judy Beere for a year as a teacher with Volunteer Service Abroad in Western Samoa was undertaken by Nelson Jaycee and the Nelson Savage club in a novel way last month. The two organisations staged a concert in the Nelson College assembly hall and the proceeds, $240, were sufficient to sponsor Miss Beere for a year. The two organisations will undertake to raise another $240 next year. The entertainment, prodvided by the Savage Club 14-piece band and members, was bright and varied. The "Looten Girls" Choir, as well as providing a new look at the hem-line (and a lovely leg line-up) gained well-merited applause for their songs.

Bill McNamara and Tim Douthett had false teeth trouble, finally solved by an uncle of Tim's.

One of the highlights of the show was the sketch on the old song "Sonny Boy" by Baby Brian Davis and his dad, Roy Purnell.

Roy Purnell and his girl friend, Theo Wadsworth, don't see eye to eye on the question of an end to a lovely evening.
