Banks' Big Changeover

So much has been written and said about DC Day and the changeover, that anything we could say would just be superfluous. Suffice to say that DC Day (July 10) has come and gone and the changeover was effected very smoothly. For the banks and their staffs, however, the changeover meant several days of intensive work. It was during this period that we put on record the story of a historical moment in New Zealand banking.

... and in with the new dollars and cents at the Anz Bank, as manager Mr Colin McDonald hands over the new currency to teller Philip Montgomery.

Cheques from all parts of New Zealand had to be sorted and sent post haste to the respective banks - a job being undertaken here by Jill Sharland.

While the banks were closed to the public, the staff of banks seized the opportunity of working in casual clothing. So to capture this unusual moment, we got this pic of the National Bank staff.

Great long tallies of figures were banged out on machines by the ANZ Bank's three Lynnes - Derbidge, Ferguson and Makey (bet your bottom dollar they're pleased it's all over).
