Roodyvoo Wins Nelson Cup

A horse which recovered from a fracture of three sesamoid bones – an accident which often results in the horses being put down – won the Nelson Cup at the Nelson Jockey Club's annual meeting at Richmond Park. And what a win it was'. With 50 yards to run it looked like Glocca Morra's race; then out of nowhere Roodyvoo flashed into sight on the outside to win by a nose. This was but one of many extremely close finishes during the two-day meeting.

A happy foursome: Mr P. Burgess (the trainer who nursed Roodyvoo back to health), K. A. Aitken (the jockey who rode a splendid race for his win) and part-owner, Mrs I. B. Rennison, of Nelson, with the "wonder horse".

Mrs Rennison accepts the cup from Mrs C. B. Hodgson, and a canteen of cutlery from club secretary, Mr Colin Neale.
