Motueka Trawler

The Motueka trawler, Thomas Lovell, fresh from her refit in Nelson, went aground in Mutton Cove, near Separation Point on April 30. A wonderful piece of salvage work was carried out on the vessel. Skin divers attached hausers to the stern of the Thomas Lovell and with the aid of a bulldozer and two trawlers the stricken vessel was pulled up above low water mark where the damaged bows (see insert) were plugged before a trawler towed it back to Nelson. This picture was taken by Mr Ian Richmond, of Pohara, who helped with the salvage work. The Thomas Lovell is back on the stocks in Nelson for repairs.
