New All-Weather Bowling Season Opened

The latest sporting amenity in Nelson, the new rubberised bowling green and pavilion on Greenmead ows, Stoke, was opened last month. The full 120 by 120 green was commenced in February last year and a lot of voluntary effort went into its construction before a contractor took over the job. Finance for the pavilion of 2573 sq. ft and the green came from a loan raised by the council and out of the council's revenue from Rabbit Island logging operations. Further concrete paths and a car park will complete the project. Bowlers turned out in force for the official opening, which was performed by Mr S. A. Whitehead M. P. (Pix by Peter Savage)
