Keeping The Home Fires Burning
The favourite way of raising finance these days would seem to be the house-to-house collection, although bottle drives and similar fund-raising activities still find favour. The Nelson District Venturer Scout Unit, needing finance (who doesn't?), hit on the idea of giving something in return for the money given them. So to that end they bought 100 cord of manuka, cut it up, and bagged and trucked it to eager buyers.
Behind a mountain of cut manuka logs, Bill Helleur, and Len and Norman Hall are working a saw bench like crazy.
Not mud in your eye, but dust, and Brian Redditt performs the necessary operation on Philip Kerr.

Getting stuck in: Bruce Spedding, Brian Redditt and Philip Kerr
The only trouble with firewood is that cutting it creates sawdust and sawdust gets into your boots, as Ken Shilling has learned.
Lots of bags and logs for Barry Boyes, Lester Steffens and Rex Bolwill to work on

In the thick of it: Fred Jones, Roy Shilling, and Doug Boyes. (Incidentally, Doug's the bloke to contact if you want a bag or two of firewood—what's left of it, of course).
