Green fingers run in the Reid family. Malcolm, seen here holding his daughter Jocelyn, is nursery foreman with the City Council and is the fourth generation of nurserymen in his family. He's also holding a cup won by his greatgrandfather in Dunedin, in 1885. Malcolm's grandfather was with the Dunedin reserves department for 40 years and his father was also a keen nurseryman.

Suzanne Satherley, a shorthand-typist at the Nelson Public Trust Office, was placed first in New Zealand for senior typing in the recent Chamber of Commerce examinations. Suzanne, now 18, has been with the Public Trust for two years. She is an old girl of Waimea College.

A loss to the racing and horsie world in the province was caused by the death of Richmond blacksmith, Mr Jack Sheridan. Jack, an expert farrier, was taught his trade by Mr Bob Wilson, of Blenheim, whose son Jack (left) is now travelling to Nelson at frequent intervals to provide the district with a "smithing" service.
