The near-new modern cargo ship Taupo spent a night on a mud bank north of McGlashen Quay when she ran aground (and over a launch) during berthing operations. Here, off the bank, she's coming in to berth. All that remained of the launch (visible, that is) can be seen in the inset above.

Away go the runners in the all-day relay conducted by pupils of Nelson College, out to make money for the new Mataki Lodge project. The boys ran a 3½ mile circuit for 8¾ hrs and raised more than £1O0 for the project. By the bye, the big money-raising effort, the fair at the college, is on next Saturday.
