This Was A Good Circus
Television, if it had done nothing else, has tended to make people more discerning and critical. No longer is second or third best good enough, and this applies perticularly to "live" entertainment. In the past, circuses which have visited Nelson have not been particularly good. Then, to Nelson last month came the Ashton circus, from Australia, and for it we have the highest praise. It did what it said it would do-entertain. And the entertainment was varied, well-presented ana quick-rire. An excellent snow which earned the acclaim or hundreds who saw it.
In the lions' cage, the trainer gets a snarl and a swipe from a clawed paw of a lioness.
No circus would be a circus without a clown, and Joey was a delightful one.
The Flying Ashtons caught in mid-air during the thrilling high trapeze act
Another daring act, the girl being suspended from a rope clutched in the teeth of her partner (no job for false teeth).
