One of the major problems associated with the road-widening of Waimea Road at Bishopdale has been the unstable nature of the ground by the brick works. Council employees have overcome this by excavating well back into the bank and filling the area, after pipes have been laid, with coarse metal. This is a new method of containing unstable ground and its introduction to Nelson seems to have been most successful.
