Queen of the Mardi Gras

From 16 entries in the "Queen of the Mardi Gras" contest organised by Nelson Jaycees and sponsored by McKays Ltd., Miss Vivienne Maisey of Nelson was selected Queen by the judges. They had no easy task. They had to award points for deportment, personality, facial and figure beauty. Another Nelson girl, Patricia Collins, was second, and a Palmerston North girl, Glenda Robinson, was third. The "Queen" was crowned at a ceremony after the final parade at the concert which replaced the Mardi Gras.
