Nelson yachtsmen became South Island champions in their classes when the island title races were sailed in Tasman Bay last month. Morris Amos and crewman Colin Ratcliffe, with two seconds in the first two races to Hugh England, raced out to the front in the last race and won by the large margin of 3 min 46 sec. England, who only needed a third placing to win the Javelin title, was sixth. in the Cherub class, Waimea College fifth formers, Robert Preston and Ray Harris, took two wins and a seventh, just beat--ing the defending champions, Terrence Gould and Hugh Sim, for the title.
