Latest in the many improvements to hotel bars in Nelson is this 2000 sq.ft. public bar at the Metropolitan Hotel. As well as the main bar a jug servery is provided (right) and an alcove has been set aside for dart players. Behind the bar is mine host Ces Fox and wife, Betty. Extensive alterations to the rest of the hotel are continuing.

It has been estimated that the cost of building the new Annesbrook Church of Christ church will be halved by the use of voluntary labour. Volunteers have worked on the building for 13 months now and it is expected to be opened on September 2 next year. The building comprises two floors, one a basement floor,'each of 3000 sq. ft.
