"If we knew you were coming..."
The best part of 300 lb of sultana cake - all of it baked with loving care - was donated to Braemar Hospital last month. But before it got that far, it was closely inspected by Miss G. E. Gane, cookery teacher at the Nelson Technical School. Object of the inspection, of course, was to ascertain who, among the 96 contestants, had baked the best cake. And the answer was Miss Janet Sannazzaro, 56 Grove Street. As a reward, she received from Odlins, sponsors of the contest, a new electric fry pan

Retail manager, Mr Ian Boa, accepts a second entry from Mrs A. Coleman (she baked another because she was dissatisfied with the first).
Mrs Coleman took second place (and with her first cake, too)
An entry from the Convent is noted by Eric Peters
Miss Gane, who judged the 96 entries, was not forgotten.
