Pet parade

We've heard of people keeping snakes for pets, and lions and other wild and lethal animals, but we weren't quite expecting to find whitebait among the hundreds of pets paraded at the Nelson Junior S. P. C. A. pet parade. This was certainly the most unusual "pet" on show. The day was not the best and almost without exception the pets were better protected than their owners. Some peeped out of coats, others from dolls' prams and baskets.

Winners all: George Hodgson, Joy vander Hoeven, Martyn Macpherson, Anne and Michael Duffy, Carol Chisholm, Helen Fryer, John Edmondson, Carol Benvin, Christine Guthard, Sandra Craig Sharon Cressey, Gaylene Hodge, Margaret Lamb (with her whitebait), and at back, Helen Dore, Charlene Davis-Goff and Judy McKay.

Anne and Michael Duffy were taking no chances on their puppy getting cold or wet

Which is the woolly lamb - a difficult question to answer, but not for Katrina Marwick (who knows her lamb) and Charles Bradford (who knows that under that woolly exterior is the heart of a pooch).

There was quite a big entry of ponies this year.

That's what we call V.I.P. treatment. But for Pixie, owner Gaylene Hodge considers nothing is too good.

×

We've heard of kittie in a basket, but here Jerome and Jane Cooper have used the basket for Chester (and did he love it).

×

Another unusual entry was this baby goat, the proud exhibitor of which is Lindsay McBride.

Thirsty business, this show business, so Merle Craig dispenses refreshment.
