House Badly Damaged By Fire

A big two-storey house used as flats at 379 Hardy Street was badly damaged when fire broke out late last month. Seat of the fire was in a wash-house at the rear of the building and it spread rapidly to the upper floor. The Nelson Fire Brigade sounded a full alarm and sixteen firemen were on the job in nothing flat. Within 30 minutes of the arrival of the brigade the blaze was brought under control, but not before all the contents of the house were damaged by fire, smoke or water. The house, owned by Mr and Mrs B. L. Gribble, of Stoke, was insured, but none of the occupiers had their effects insured and lost heavily.

Spring In Oueen 'S Gardens

×

Like the rest of Nelson's public reserves, the Queen's Gardens have been a picture lately. Trees are heavy with blossom and the magnolias at the main gates provided their usual mag-nificent display. The warmer weather has also induced many family groups to visit the gardens to feed the ducks and see their tiny offspring.
