Fifty Mile Cycle Race

Ken Rowe, of Nelson, riding off the 16 min mark, won the Nelson provincial 50-mile amateur cycling title when he led home 21 other competitors after a ride to the foot of Spooner's Range and return. Fastest time in the event went to Marlborough rider, Peter Neilson (2 mins). Junior track champion David Comparini found his scratch handicap (23 min behind the first riders) too much despite a tremendous effort.
