Another of Nelson's historic landmarks is disappearing with the demolition of the old building of Day's Service Station at Cock and Co's corner. The building originally was used as a reception depot for apples, then later as a wood and coal yard. Then, 35 years ago the service station was established on a 24-hours service basis, and in that time the doors have never shut. It is still the only service station north of Christ-church with a continuous service. A new station with better facilities is being erected a little further back.
