Nelson Colleges Tournament Win

Not long after half-time in the final of the quadrangular Rugby tournament between Nelson College and Wellington College, it appeared that Wellington College, with a 14-6 lead, would retain the title it won last year. But such was not to be. Driven on by incessant chanting and hakas by Nelson supporters the Nelson forward were revitalised to such an extent that in the last 15 minutes they could not be held. The score mounted to 14-9, then 14-12, and Nelson desperately drove to the Wellington line where fullback C. Morris dropped a field goal. 15-14. What a match! Wanganui Collegiate took the wooden spoon this year with a loss to Christ's College in the final.

But from that scrum the ball went to Hughes and we caught him in the act of propping inside his man a split second before he scored.

The hands go up but referee said "no try" and a scrum was formed.........

Everyone jumps but the ball was well to the rear (Nelson players being Nevin, Stigley, Merrick (blocking), Kershaw, Drunmond, Strachan and Weston)

There's determination here from the Wanganui player moving in to the tackle and the wing of Christ's College moving round him.
