Seagulls, of all shapes and sizes and breeds, have been in the news of recent months, mainly in connexion with bird hazards at Nelson Airport. We spotted this large colony of oyster catchers on the beach at Tahuna one day and when we put them to flight (above) we realised just how big a problem can be created by a mob like this. In Nelson city, however, the gulls at left were quite content to sit in the sun
