In 1928, Harry Large bought a new Harley Davidson, Today, after nearly 40 years' work, the old machine is still giving wonderful service, "I did all my courting on this old bike," said Mr Large. Today, Mr Large, a nurseryman, uses the machine constantly and it has given and is still giving him less trouble than one could expect from newfangled motor bikes.

The trimaran, Damala, manned by a crew of three Australians, lost its mainmast in a storm off Peppin's Island, and had to put in to Nelson. For two months the three crewmen, Neil Sampson, Emiel Van Bommell, and Bill Tournier worked in Nelson and in their spare time they made and rigged the new mast. We picture them here ready to leave to continue their voyage to Tahiti, Not long after leaving Nelson the vessel had to return, this time with sail damage.
