GOLD!

Have you ever wondered what would happen today if another major gold strike was reported? Would there be scenes reminiscent of the old days? Or would life go on very much as it is now? Hard to say. But that magic word "gold" is still synonomous with adventure and there are many in Nelson who pack pans, shovels, cradles and other gear into their caravans and set out for a weekend of gold fossicking. And from what we've heard, their labours are not in vain. One of the most popular areas is the Pinedale Motor Camp on the Wakamarina River, close to Canvastown, the scene of gold rushes in the last century. It was here that Peter Cooper recorded the activities of fossickers for us.
