Scouts' Founder's Day

The birthday of Lord Baden Powell, the founder of the scouting movement, was remembered throughout New Zealand at a ceremony which, conducted by the Governor General (Sir Bernard Fergusson),was reproduced wherever Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies gathered together shortly after 11 a.m. on February 20. They listened to Sir Bernard, then at his word lit smoke fire signals. Nelson Scouts and Guides heard the broadcast from the top of Botanical Hill.
