Nelson's hopes of seeing more cruise ships in the future received a solid blow with the southerly blow which prevented the Japanese cruise ship, Oriental Queen, from entering the port. The ship, on a tour of South Island ports, had to move on to picton.

An unusual procedure for re-sealing a road is employed here by R. A. McLennan and Co. machines in Parkers Road. The dry material is dumped in the middle of the road, sprayed with tar and then mixed by a grader before being spread and rolled. Incidentally, this grader is just the latest word in graders.
