Happy Anniversary To Us

With this issue, "Nelson Photo News" celebrates its 50th publication anniversary. Four years ago the Logan Publishing Company decided to establish its first and only South Island "Photo News" in Nelson," and it did so with confidence, notwithstanding the moans of the pessimists who considered Nelson would not support such a venture. The company's confidence in Nelson and its future was not misplaced. Today "Nelson Photo News" retains the largest circulation of all the seven "Photo News" magazines published by the company.

For our part, may we say we have loved every minute of the work entailed in collecting material for the magazine and seeing each issue take shape. Often this has involved long and arduous hours of work, but the friendliness of the people and the co-operation we have received have been tremendous compensations. Now, just a few small facts about your "Photo News". Each issue we take about 500 pictures, so that in four years we've clicked the shutter about 24*000 times. From these we've selected about 10,500 pictures for publication.

One final word - and that is of thanks to all who have helped us in these first four years of publication. Our thanks and our best wishes to all our readers for a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous 1965.

We've reprinted on this page two of the major events which were covered in our first publication - the opening of the new George Manson block at the hospital by the then Governor-General (Lord Cobham) above, and the presentation of the "Weekly Press" shooting shield to I Nelson College - an event which we covered recently also.
