The Nelson Photo News

Stop Press!

This newspaper business is becoming competitive. Three daily newspapers circulate in the Nelson area and in two districts "throwaway" papers are being printed. Now, "Photo News", another Nelson district newspaper, has discovered a similar enterprise. The circulation of the "Hope School Press" may not be large, but it is enthusiastically compiled and avidly read by local residents. The children of this small primary school do all the work, from the writing of the news to the campaigning for advertising and the accounting. Every child in the school is encouraged each month to provide articles and these are sub-edited, proofed and read by the children. Costs of producing the paper are provided by advertisers from as far north as Auckland and in the two years in which the paper has been produced, only once has the Hope Home and School Association failed to benefit financially. We visited the school recently and found the children hard at work producing the latest issue.
