C. W. I. Festival
Items presented by the Tahunanui Women's Institute at the Institutes' festival at Motueka recently, were given another airing in Nelson recently. The one that most tickled our fancy, "Mary Ellen at the Church", will be well-known by many of our older readers. We present it on this page.
Mary Ellen (Molly Day) at the church turned up.....
......and the parson (Constance Hildendorf) in his long white shirt turned up.
But no bridegroom at the church turned up, just a telegraph boy (Norma Mant) with his nose turned up....
...with a telegram that read "I'd rather die than wed...."
The reaction to this very sad occasion
....and they (Grace Bartle) found him; (Jean Hitchman) in the river with his toes turned up.
