Two fires, starting within a few days of each other, gutted houses at Tahunanui and central Nelson, late last month. Above are the remains of the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Banham, Parkers Road, after it had been pulled down following a fire, and below, the property occupied by Mr M. Zainey, Kawai Street. A rather ironic fact is that these two fires, and three other property fires, all occurred during Fire Prevention Week - the most fires involving property for some considerable time in Nelson.
