Notwithstanding some hefty pulling by the tug Wakatu and the dredge Tasman Bay, the Anchor Shipping Co's vessel, Mamaku, refused to budge from a shoal on which she ran aground as she was berthing at Port Nelson. When their combined efforts failed the Mamaku had to wait for the rising tide before she floated off three hours later.

Mr and Mrs "Pop" Inwood, of Motueka, had the happiest end possible to their golden wedding anniversary celebrations. Scarcely were they over then they learned they had won £1000 in the Golden Kiwi lottery. (John R. Sharp).
