A start was made during the month with installing equipment in Civil Defence posts in the Nelson district. At the Hope School and Waimea Intermediate School big cupboards containing stretchers, lanterns, field dressings and blankets were installed and other sectors throughout the province will be equipped shortly. For the occasion, Brigadier J. T. Burrows, regional controller, was present and addressed wardens. Our pic shows the Brigadier (second right) with civil defence officials and the new equipment.

Enough money, £42, to buy a buffalo, pig, and a plough for a family in an under-developed country, and to buy milk for seven children for a year, was raised by pupils of the Tahuna-nul School, in a CORSO effort. The money is seen here, in the outlines of the goods it will purchase. Inset, the headmaster, Mr S. B. Smith, prepares to hand the money over to Mrs Dawber, of CORSO.
