Wild Game for Export

Every weekend, dozens of Nelson sportsmen take to the hills and mountains in the Nelson district in search of game. Wild pigs and deer especially abound in the province and it is extremely seldom that a shooter does not bag something. Quite recently a Nelson firm obtained an overseas market for wild game and now many shooters, as well as obtaining pleasure from their sport, find it can be quite lucrative. Venison, wild pork and hares are now being bought in quantity, processed in Nelson and shipped overseas, mainly to West Germany. Already 40 tons have been shipped overseas. The company has depots at Blenheim, Tapawera and Collingwood, and regular collections are made at these points.
