Nelson Entry in Trans-Tasman Race

For more than 12 months, Albie Tregidga had but one thought - to complete the refitting of his 83ft schooner, the beautiful Fitheach Ban. This work came to an end on Sunday, January 14, when with his crew of seven, Captain Tregidga set a course out of Nelson for Auckland on the first leg of a Journey which will take him racing across the Tasman in the company of 17 other craft. The biggest vessel entered in this year's trans-Tasman race, the Fitheach Ban has been overhauled from stem to stern. With her new terylene sails gradually filling in a light breeze, she made a magnificent spectacle as she left her home port. She carries a full Nelson crew, all of whom are members of the Aurora Sailing Club. It is the club's first entry in this major yachting event, and Nelsonians, yachties and land-lubbers alike, will take a keen interest in her progress.
