Olympic Athletes at Nelson

Highlight of the athletics season so far was the appearance of Olympic gold medallist, Peter Snell, and Olympic shot putter, Valerie Sloper, at the Nelson Festival Games. Snell, recovering from a leg injury, clocked 4m 8.4s to win the mile and Valerie Sloper won both the women's discus and shot put very comfortably. She was also third in the women's high jump.
