Rothman's Festival Games

Auckland had little trouble beating the Seddon Shield districts team in the inter-provincial contest during the Rothman's festival games at Trafalgar Park. Highlights of the meeting were the new national record for the women's 80 metres hurdles set by Avis McIntosh (Auck); the defeat of the national two-mile title-holder, Geoff Pyne (Marl) by Bill Baillie (Auck); the close finish to the senior 880 yards in which world record holder Peter Snell Just beat G. Morriss (Westport); and the win of Dave Karl in the senior mile, with Peter Snell a tired third. An excellent meeting which drew a big crowd.
