Hibernians Celebrate Golden Jubilee

Members of the Nelson Hibernian Society celebrated their branch's 50th jubilee last month, with a dinner, a special thanksgiving Mass and a social. Representatives from other branches of the society throughout New Zealand and sister lodges in Nelson, attended the celebrations.

Representatives of sister lodges: Frank Adams (Foresters), Frank Madigan (Loyal Nelson Muioof), George Housiaux (Ufs Dispensary Board) and Alice and Jim Cutty (Ioof).
Hibernians from other parts: Molly Atger (Blen), Michael Mcllhatton(N.Z. Grand President), Kath Stevens (Wellington provincial council) John McKenzie (Westport) and Michael Hartley (Stratford).
Tom Murphy (51 years a member of the society), Michael Mcllhatton, Jack Moriarty (president) and Father G. Cheesman(chaplain) have a yarn at the social.
As a memento of the jubilee the society gave a cheque to cover the cost of a hand-carved wooden statue of St Joseph the Workman in the Vanguard Street Church.
