Youngsters who attended a Mother and Daughter evening arranged by the Stoke branch of the Y.M.C.A. were just as interested as their mothers in the demonstration on makeup. While they were engrossed in finding out the beauty tricks, the men (below). John Martin, Jim Farrell, "Auk" Winn and Michael Bourke, were preparing supper.

For the first time for many years, Nelson celebrated the anniversary of Trafalgar Day by flying flags and with a parade of Sea Cadets. At the port, the anniversary was also remembered by the Hong Kong vessel, Ardmore, which was loading logs for Japan. She dressed for the occasion.
