Sub-Unions Win

The art of modern Rugby, with the loose forwards getting quickly to the loose ball and feeding it on to players backing up, was the foundation upon which the Canterbury Sub-unions' team built its win over Nelson, From lineouts, loose rucks and broken play, the touring forwards showed just how devestatingly effective the short passing rushes could be. The tourists won by 21 points to 11, but the scoring should have been a little closer than this. The sub-unions received 5 points as the result of a try that was scored after the ball had been hastily pressed for a drop-out by Mike Delany but apparently at this moment the referee was unsighted Nelson had its attacking moments also, but lack of possession and too much ill-directed kicking nullified many worthwhile movements.
