"The Desert Song"

Looking back over the years, one can recall the days when the Charleston, jazz, swing, rock and more recently the twist was king of music. Each has had its day or will shortly be dethroned in favour of some new, and undoubtedly, even more noisy and unintelligible sound. But the music of composers like Sigmund Romberg have not only survived these musical revolutions, but have remained favourites with countless millions throughout the world. It was, therefore, with great pleasure that we and other Nelsonians learned that the Operatic Society this time is to produce next month the evergreen musical of Romberg's, "The Desert Song", To give you all a preview of this production, the society cooperated with us in producing four pages of pictures from the show. Space does not permit a description of the show,' but we can assure you that it is going to be excellent. The costumes and scenery are brilliant and producer David MacKenzie has assembled a cast with both singing and acting ability.

The principals ares Red Shadow (John Purnell); Margo (Barbara Lane); General Birabeau (Reg Tapley) Ali Ben Ali (Laurie Staig); Captain Fontaine (Tom Elliott); Azuri (Cherie Dyce); Bennie (John Peterson); Susan (Jan Duffy).
