A.N.Z. Bank Opened

×

The new premises of the Australia and New Zealand Bank, Hardy Street, were opened earlier this month. The new building replaces the bank's old building, erected 99 years ago. Part of this old building was pulled down to make way Tor the new structure. The remainder, which can be seen at the right of the pic above, will be demolished and the site offered for sale. Features of the new bank are its courtyard and covered sidewalk and entrance walk. Inside, the bar-bound birdcages which have been the accepted accommodation for tellers, have been rejected in favour of a long, clear counter (left). To mark the opening the bank displayed a collection of historic pictures, documents, paintings and banknotes, and these have caused widespread interest. Below, Chris Fox and Stephen Rodgers find something of interest.
