The name Cotton is a well-known one around Nelson and many branches of the family were represented at the diamond wedding celebrations of Mr and Mrs A. J. Cotton, 433 Waimea Road, last month.

Quite out of the blue a whirlwind whipped across Stoke on a narrow front and shot through the rafters of the home of Mr and Mrs D. M. Gilchrist, 15 Marsden Road, at Easter. It tore a tiled ridging from the roof, screamed through the rafters and then scattered about 200 tiles from the southern end of the roof as it burst out of the house. Here, Mr and Mrs Gilchrist examine the damage after tilers had repaired the roof in next to record time.
