In the construction of the Nelson Harbour Board's new McGlashen Quay, 359 hardwood piles from Australia were used. Big articulated trucks such as that shown here transported the logs to the site.

Nelson province is closely associated with Abel Tasman, so it was fitting that when the ship of this name berthed at Nelson some function was warranted. Public Relations Officer, John Wheeler, boarded the vessel and presented Captain A. W. Deed with photographs and a copy of our scenic publication, "Beautiful Nelson". Wharfinger Jack Harris is also interested.
