Skating Record Broken

For 40 min 40 sec, Mervyn Wybrott, world 20,000metre roller skating champion, raced around the cycling circuit of Trafalgar Park in a successful bid for a new national 10-mile record. The former record, established by Gordon Miller, Paraparaumu, in January this year, was 42min 28sec. Wybrott was assisted in his attempt by Ian Hughes, a world record-holder in sprint events, and by local skaters, who bore the brunt of the stiff wind that blew throughout the attempt.
