New Hopper Barge Launched

The Nelson Harbour Board's new hopper barge built by Dorman Engineering Ltd, was launched late last month. The barge will serve as an adjunct to the dredge Tasman Bay, thereby increasing the dredge's efficiency and decreasing its uneconomic running. The barge is of all steel construction and a powerful engine operates the hydraulic equipment which opens and closes the hopper doors.
