All children look forward to a picnic, but none more than the children of Appleby School, for they start the fun of the picnic from the moment they board the horse–drawn waggon, of Rod O'Connor's. It is doubtful if the scene depicted here, once quite common in New Zealand, could be seen in any other part of New Zealand today.
