"Time Out for Ginger"

The Nelson Repertory Society's last production for 1962, was "Time Out For Ginger", a comedy. The plot centred round the Carol Family, and in particular, Ginger, 14-year-old daughter of Agnes and Howard Carol. Howard, in a speech at the school, said that everyone should be allowed to do whatever he or she wants to do and this is interpreted literally by Ginger who insists on playing in the football team. There are complications, but these provide the comedy of the play, which ends on a happy note when Ginger realises she is a girl at heart and that her boy friend, Tommy, likes her as a girl, not as a football player.

This was a most successful production with which to bring the repertory year to a close, and there was universal sorrow when it was learned that Rowland Halliwell, who played the part of the High School principal, died suddenly after returning home on the first night. His place was taken by George Cameron.
